Commentary In Favor Of Books thirteen o'clock
This may be the most brutal and controversial story that David Gerrold has ever written. An attempted gay-bashing of a crippled war vet leads to a scream-of-consciousness unraveling of a terrifying past and the ultimate discovery of a new human possibility. After its publication in the February 2006 issue of The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction several subscribers actually cancelled their subscriptions in protest. This story is an unflinching look at souls in transformation.Contains strong language and vivid descriptions of sex and violence. Not recommended for young or impressionable readers. Please keep your seat belt fastened tightly.

That is one intense short story. Jolie-laide.Author David Gerrold gives us an uncompromising story that begins with three young guys out to gat bash, picking on the wrong man. An older Viet Nam vet that doesn't suffer fools, though in the emd, he takes them to the hospital and makes a connection with the one who doesn't try to jump him.Not the connection one might think though.A tough look at the life gay people experience, the good, the bad. One hopes the bad is going away gradually.Enjoyable read for me,This novelette is overflowing with passion and insightful characterization. Gerrold has packed enough anger, love, loss, and hope into these pages to fuel a much longer story about this character. Wonderful stuff.
Stream of consciousness writing is just something I hate. Even with a normal short story I would have given it only one star. This was just an hour I will never get back. I can think of no one whom I would recommend this to, but I do have one friend I will tell to read it, because she has recommended some awful stuff for me to read throughout the years
Neat. I couldn't quite decide if it was SF or just Burroughs-like channeling (set in SF).Also not sure what the rule was for punctuation & capitalization. Did it get better at the end, or was that just my perception?
