It was interesting reading this: A-having read only Pearson's Guests of War TrilogyB-while at the same time reading Genuine Fraud which also features abuse and being an orphan (or semi-orphaned in Theo's case). While this book is written for younger children, I still thoroughly enjoyed returning to it. I haven't read it since I was a young girl and as an adult I just sank into the comfort of this book. This is Literature with a capital L. It won a Childrens Literary award but its audience is wider than just for children. I loved this book. Right from the start, I was captivated by Theo and her ability to survive in spite of her terrible home life.
