Interpretation Supposing Books Narrow Rooms

A powerful story of love turned round, of passion and fierce discovery, of lives illuminated by flickering violence.

As Purdy spins the story of the extraordinary symbiotic relationship between four boys in a remote West Virginia mountain town, led by the seemingly hypnotic power of the one known as "the renderer," the prose itself is rendered by Purdy into spare, ecstatic brilliance, and Narrow Rooms takes on the resonance of any time, any place, of haunted myth, of a tale of horror told in the darkness by generations, and never, never to be forgotten...

Column Based On Books Narrow Rooms
OMG! I'll add more later when I recover from reading this...

A writer's writer? James Purdy's tales are soap operas mixed with Monday Night Football. Narrow Rooms tells the story of the mundane, starring Gloria Swanson and Montgomery Cliff. Loved it!

Largely dreck. An alternative love quadrangle in the mountains of West Virginia. Picked up the book in the basement of a book warehouse for a dollar or two because its author was called an authentic American genius by another well-known American writer. I couldnt tell it by this book.

Purdy's work is both humbling and inspiring. He's that good. I found myself reading passages over and over, enrapt, amazed.

Gorgeously phony dialogue combined with truly stunning description of the settings and world of this novel indicate it's smarter than I expected it to be about the Gothic archness of its project. In this way Purdy writes from a place beyond critique or reproach. This is a novel you need to bottom for and enjoy your time being rent by.

Its just a combination of his two other books. But its still good
