I quite enjoyed this short intro into Dax's story. We get to learn how he meets and falls in love with Trish and how he becomes part of the Phantoms MC.Strange... It was very descriptive, almost like paragraph after paragraph was written in past tense trying to bring you up to speed to present day... But, that was the whole book. The first two thirds was better than the last third but I struggled with connection. It had the ability to be so much more powerful but a lot was skipped and rushed over.
A close friend pointed me in the direction of Jayna's Satin and Steel, I fell hard for the book...Namely Dax ;0)Earning the Cut, shows (heartbreaking at times) the events that lead up to Dax becoming the man he is (in S&S). And if possible make ya fall in love with with him even more. I highly recomend ye read Sain & Steel (1st) the grab this wonderful novella

Earning the Cut is a novella by Jayna Vixen and is a great introduction to the Riding the Line series. The novella, as well as the series, focuses on Dax Jamison. The novella starts with Dax as a child and details his troubling childhood which ultimately leads him to the Phantom MC. The rest of the series follows his life and love as he climbs the ranks of the MC.
Dax started out with a really shitty childhood and then has the girl all the boys in the school dream about coming to his defense. Trish is the girl with the plans to become a doctor, and from a family on the hill. Dax is not the boy her father wants her to be with. But these two fall in love anyway. Trish makes Dax become a better person, but he finds something wanting out anyway from his past. The MC from his father. He has lost his girl and turns to the MC afterall. When the girls comes back
I got this one to try, so I could see if the author worked for me. It was interesting, well written, and I'm sure that it'd be great to have that background story for reading Satin & Steel, I just don't know if I can bring myself to do it. I know it's based around SOA, and I love that show, so I don't know if I can read something that resembles it too closely.... I just don't know!!!I'm torn, because I know that it's supposed to be different enough, and I really did enjoy Earning the Cut.
Motorcycle club romance is a genre that I'm just getting into and had some definite hits and misses with. Earning the Cut sounded like it would be an interesting read, since it shows how Dax got into the MC in the first place and probably what drove the love interests apart before they're reunited in the main series. Well, what I got was a story that was super awkward to read because the tone simply doesn't match what was happening on the page. It also read more like explicit Young Adult for the
